Mughal Empire AH 1120/2 rupee KM-336.5
This specimen was lot 660 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $1,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "MUGHAL: Kam Bakhsh, 1707-1708, AR rupee, Haiderabad, AH1120 year 2, with the rhyming epithet Dar al-Jihad; 2 testmarks, bold strike on slightly broad flan, VF-XF, RR." Wikipedia comments, "Mirza Muhammad Kam Bakhsh (Persian: محمد کامبخش; 7 March 1667 – 14 January 1709) was the youngest son of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, born to his wife Udaipuri Mahal." He died of wounds after a battle with Bahadur Shah (r. 1707-12). This rupee was struck at Ahmadabad (KM 336.1), Bijapur (KM 336.2), Gokak (KM 336.4), Gulbarga (KM 336.3), Haidarabad (shown here), Imtiyazgarh (KM 336.9), Nusratabad (KM 336.6), Surat (KM 336.8) and Toragal (KM 336.7), of which Haidarabad is scarce but not the rarest.
