Steve Album sale 51, lot 661

This specimen was lot 661 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $1,440. The catalog description[1] noted, "MUGHAL: Shah Alam Bahadur, 1707-1712, AR rupee, Multan, AH1119 year one (ahad), discussed in detail on Zeno-79258, with more information at Zeno-332025, one of the rarest Mughal types, struck only at Multan in AH1119 year one, all from the same pair of dies, all 4 pieces with testmarks; 3 testmarks on this piece, VF, RRRR. The couplet on the obverse as translated for Zeno-332025: 'The drum was beaten across seven realms, the coin was struck over the sun and moon / Protector of Muhammad's faith, Shah Alam (the king of the world), the emperor.'" The later style rupees of Multan (KM 347.15) are common.
