Egypt reconstituted herself as the Arab Republic of Egypt in 1971 (1391 AH), abandoning the title 'United Arab Republic'. Coins were reissued from this year with the modified title. The example shown is a copper-nickel five piastres, celebrating the Year of the Child. It is an International Year of the Child issue. The design was also used on a silver pound (KM 489).

Recorded mintage: 1,000,000.

Specification: copper-nickel, 25 mm diameter.
