Sincona sale 81, lot 6211

This specimen was lot 6211 in Sincona sale 81 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 750 CHF (about US$899 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND | Zurich | Stadt und Kanton, Taler 1661, Zürich. Very fine-extremely fine." This type was struck 1661-65, soon after Switzerland left the Holy Roman Empire by the terms of the Treaty of Westphalia. Very similar thalers were struck 1673-77 (Dav-4651) and 1691-94 (Dav-4652). All are scarce to rare.
