Sincona sale 95, lot 4613

This specimen was lot 4613 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 350 CHF (about US$485 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Zug, Stadt und Kanton, 1/6 Assis 1762, Zug. Zugerwappen, deutscher Schild. Rv. Wertzahl 1/6, zwei Zeilen Schrift und Jahreszahl, unten ein Röschen. Selten. Sehr schön. (Switzerland, canton of Zug, one-sixth assis of 1762, Zug mint. Obverse: cantonal arms, German style shield; reverse: value and date, rosette below. Rare, Very Fine.)"

The SCWC lists this type for 1747-52, 1756-57, 1761-67. Like many low denomination coins, it is common in low grade but rare in choice condition, no contemporaries thinking it worth hoarding. It was equal to the angster.

Record mintage: unknown.

Specification: 0.2 g, billon, 12 mm diameter, this specimen 0.21 g.

Catalog reference: KM 56, Tobler (1/6 Assis) 26a, D.T. 645i, HMZ 2-1105z.
