Sincona sale 98, part of lot 4578

This specimen was part of lot 4578 in SINCONA Auction 98 (Zürich, May 2025), which sold for 180 CHF (about US$261 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Zug, Stadt und Kanton, Groschen 1600, Zug. Variante mit Jahreszahl über dem Wappen, seitlichen Verzierungen und MONETA . NOVA. Dazu: Groschen 1602, Groschen 1604 und Groschen 1606. Sehr schön-gutes vorzüglich. (4) (Switzerland, city and canton of Zug, groschen of 1600, Zug mint. Variety with the date over the arms and arabesques on the sides of the shield. Included are groschen of 1602, 1604, 1606. Very Fine-About Uncirculated, four pieces.)"

A groschen was three kreuzer, hence the "3" marked on the reverse. This type is listed for 1597-1608 with the 1605 noted as a rare date. Some of the dates, including 1600, 1602 and 1606, are known in klippe format (KM 19).
