Zug (1601) schilling
This specimen was lot 4570 in SINCONA Auction 98 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 1,000 CHF (about US$1,451 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Zug, Stadt und Kanton, Schilling o. J. (nach 1601), Zug. Seltene Variante mit C - I (VI). Sehr selten. Gutes sehr schön. Exemplar der Slg. Kunzmann, Auktion SINCONA 53, Zürich, Oktober 2018, Los 6953. Erstmals beschrieben in Schweizer Münzblätter, Heft 151/1988, S. 84-85: E. Tobler/R. Kunzmann. Seltene Schweizer Kleinmünzen III. (Switzerland, city and canton of Zug, undated schilling, circa 1601, Zug mint. Very rare, Good Very Fine. First described in Schweizer Münzblätter, issue 151/1988, pp. 84-85: E. Tobler/R. Kunzmann, "Rare Swiss Small Coins III.")"
Numista attributes this undated issue to c.1564-96, which seems plausible, as specimens dated 1597-99 are known. However, we will side with Sincona, whom we presume are the experts. It is not mentioned in the SCWC.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specifications: 1.0 g, billon, 18 mm diameter, this specimen 1.15 g.
