Zeeland 1796 silver ducat Dav-1848
This specimen was lot 1167 in Jean Elsen sale 122 (Brussels, September 2014), where it sold for €360 (about US$551 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"NEDERLAND, De Bataafse Republiek (1795-1806), AR zilveren dukaat, 1796, Zeeland. Droit: Ridder n.r. met zwaard en provinciewapen. Revers: Gekroond generaliteitswapen. Zeer Zeldzaam. Iets zwak. Klein defekt aan de rand. goede Zeer Fraai. (Netherlands, Batavian Republic (1795-1806), silver ducat of 1796, Zeeland mint. Obverse: knight holds sword and provincial arms; reverse: crowned arms of the Generality. Small edge defect, very scarce, good very fine.)"
This type was struck throughout the eighteenth century for the United Provinces until 1794 and then for the Batavian Republic 1795-98.
