Steve Album sale 51, lot 3371

This specimen was lot 3371 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $60. The catalog description[1] noted, "YUGOSLAVIA: Peter II, 1934-1945, 2 dinara, 1938, large crown, a superb example, PCGS graded MS65." This type was struck in Paris in the last years of the monarchy. Beset by economic collapse and ethnic conflicts, Peter's regent tried to navigate the stormy waters of late thirties European politics. The regent was ousted in March 1941 and Peter was given full powers; in April, the Nazis invaded and by the end of the month, Peter II was in exile in Cairo, never to return.

Recorded mintage: 74,250,000 plus proofs.

Specifications: 4.9 g, aluminum bronze, 24.5 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by Frano Meneghello Dinčić.
