Wurzburg 1779-MP thaler Dav-2904
This specimen was lot 944 in Jean Elsen sale 126 (Brussels, September 2015), where it sold for €150 (about US$200 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ALLEMAGNE, WÜRZBURG, Evêché, Franz Ludwig von Erthal (1779-1795), AR Taler, 1779. D/ B. à d., vêtu du manteau épiscopal. R/ Armoiries. Beau à Très Beau. (bishopric of Würzburg, Francis Louis of Erthal (1779-95), silver thaler of 1779. Obverse: bust right, in vestments; reverse: arms. Fine to very fine.)"
This three year type (1779-84) is common. It is one of three different types issued in that year. It varies from Dav-2903 in having the title of Bishop of Bamberg added to the obverse legend and the reverse arms modified accordingly.
