Künker sale 335, lot 4489

This specimen was lot 4489 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabruck, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €700 (about US$916 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"WÜRTTEMBERG, WÜRTTEMBERG, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1806 KÖNIGREICH. Karl Eugen, 1744-1793. 10 Kreuzer 1790, Stuttgart. R Hübsche Patina, winz. Schrötlingsfehler, vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Wurttemberg, Charles Eugene, 1744-93, ten kreuzer of 1790, Stuttgart mint. Scarce, handsome patina, minor planchet flaws, extremely fine.)"

Ten kreuzer = 1/12 of a thaler. Wikipedia comments, "Hermann Sacher, writing in the Catholic Encyclopedia called Charles Eugene 'a despot, spendthrift, and profligate'. Charles Eugene ruled until his death in 1793, when he was succeeded by his younger brother. He died in Hohenheim." He had children by at least seven different mistresses.
