Künker sale 406, lot 4077

This specimen was lot 4077 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabruck, March 2024), where it sold for €2,200 (about US$2,887 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"WÜRTTEMBERG, HERZOGTUM, Karl Eugen, 1744-1793. Dukat 1791, Stuttgart. GOLD. Von größter Seltenheit. Fassungsspuren, leicht gewellt, etwas berieben, sehr schön. Exemplar der Auktion Münzhandlung Sonntag 25, Stuttgart 2017, Nr. 1279. (duchy of Württemberg, Charles Eugene, 1744-93, ducat of 1791, Stuttgart mint. Extremely rare, traces of a mount, slightly wavy, tooled, very fine.)"

Another rare one year type. Wikipedia comments, "Hermann Sacher, writing in the Catholic Encyclopedia called Charles Eugene 'a despot, spendthrift, and profligate'. Charles Eugene ruled until his death in 1793, when he was succeeded by his younger brother. He died in Hohenheim." He had children by at least seven different mistresses.
