Wismar in 1648, east of Ratzeburg, from Droysen's atlas

This specimen was lot 11310 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €65 (about US$68). The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN. 1/24 Taler, 1664. Wismar Mint. Karl XI. NGC AU Details--Mount Removed. From the L. E. Bruun Collection." Wismar was ceded to Sweden in 1648 and remained until Swedish control until it was sold to the duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin in 1803. Numista lists this as a groschen but a "24" appears on the reverse. This type was struck 1650-72 and has a low catalog value.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specifications: silver.

Catalog reference: KM-80; Delzanno-1146; SB-36; Bruun-12180.
