Windischgratz 1777 ducat Fr-908
This specimen was lot 1887 in Sincona sale 38 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 550 CHF (about US$660 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Windischgrätz, Fürstentum, Josef Nikolaus, + 1802 Dukat 1777. Wien. Sehr selten. Gutes sehr schön. Fassungsspuren. (Germany, principality of Windischgratz, Joseph Nicholas, 1746-1802, ducat of 1777, Vienna mint. Very rare. Good very fine. Mounted.)"
This type was struck for the prince 1777 only and is indeed rare. It is accompanied by a twenty kreuzer, half thaler and an extremely rare five ducats. The modest price realized is likely due to the damaged condition.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold, .110 troy oz AGW, this specimen 3.39 g.
