Westfriesland 1611 rijksdaalder Dav-4842
This specimen was lot 75483 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. West Friesland. Daalder, 1611. Dordrecht Mint. PCGS Genuine--Environmental Damage, EF Details. Dove gray surfaces reveal some amber iridescence when rotated under a light source. Hints of rich charcoal coloration are evident on the obverse and reverse, likely accounting for the designation on the PCGS paper insert, but the are also possibly the result of alloy flaws in the flan that have tarnished over time. Nonetheless an excellent representative of the date that would also serve well for type purposes." This type was struck 1607-93 along with lion daalders (Dav-4870) silver ducats (Dav-4908), ducatons (Dav-4941) and three gulden (Dav-4961).
Recorded mintage: unknown.
