This specimen was lot 74899 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Trade Tokens. Warwickshire, Birmingham. Uniface 1/2 Penny Copper Token, ND (ca. 1790). PCGS MS-63 Brown. RARE trial piece with bust right, SAMUEL GARBETT around. Reverse blank, with engrailed edge and diameter of 28mm. Pleasing, even brown patina on both sides, with some bright mint red in the protected areas. From the Richard Margolis Collection." Wikipedia comments, "Samuel Garbett (1717– 5 December 1803) was a prominent citizen of Birmingham England, during the Industrial Revolution, and a friend of Matthew Boulton."
