Waldeck-Pyrmont 1742 ducat Fr-3494
This specimen was lot 1576 in Künker Auction 425 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €6,500 (about US$9,204 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHE MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN · WALDECK, GRAFSCHAFT, SEIT 1713 FÜRSTENTUM Carl August Friedrich, 1728-1763. Dukat 1742, Arolsen. GOLD. RR Leicht gewellt, kl. Kratzer, vorzüglich. (Germany, principality of Waldeck, Charles Augustus Frederick, 1728-63, ducat of 1742, Arolsen mint. Very rare, slightly wavy, hairlines, extremely fine.)"
This rare type appears once a decade or so. Waldeck and Pyrmont were united in 1625 when the count succeeded to both domains. Waldeck survived unification in 1871 and its last coinage is dated 1903.
