SB823-58018r.jpg

This specimen was lot 58018 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $480. The catalog description[1] noted, "VIETNAM. 10 Dong, 1989. Leningrad (St, Petersburg) Mint. PCGS PROOF-68 Deep Cameo." The SCWC notes, "KM 38 and 38a were minted in the Leningrad Mint as gifts to the Vietnamese government and were not circulated. KM 38a was available in boxed sets of three, with KM 36a and 40a." KM 38a is the silver version of this coin; KM 36a was a silver five đồng featuring a phoenix and KM 40a was a silver 20 đồng featuring Ho Chi Minh. All are readily available, suggesting a considerable number leaked onto the numismatic market.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: brass.

Catalog reference: KM-38.
