Sincona sale 26, lot 3467

This specimen was lot 3467 in Sincona sale 26 (Zürich, October 2015), where it sold for 200 CHF (about US$247 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Paolo Rainier, 1779-1789 Tallero per il Levante 1785. Fast vorzüglich. (Italy, republic of Venice, Paolo Rainier, 1779-1789, tallero for the Levant of 1785. Choice extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1781-88 and tho priced fairly low in the SCWC, does not turn up often. The Republic was occupied by Napoleon in 1797 and traded by him to Austria, which held it until 1866.

Specification: 28.47 g, 0.835 fine silver, .764 troy oz ASW; this specimen 28.53 g.
