Sincona Auction 103, lot 698

This specimen was lot 698 in Sincona Auction 103 (Zürich, May 2026), where it sold for 375 CHF (about US$476 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALIEN Venedig. Agostino Barbarigo, 1486-1501. Mocenigo o. J., Venezia. Gutes vorzüglich. Überdurchschnittliche Erhaltung. (Italy, republic of Venice, Agostino Barbarigo, 1486-1501, undated mocenigo, Venice mint. About Uncirculated, Extraordinary condition.)"

This mocenigo or lira has initials MPX, for Marco Pesaro, mintmaster in 1494. Agostino was preceded as doge by his brother Marco. A later Agostino Barbarigo was killed at the battle of Lepanto (1571).
