Sincona Auction 103, lot 697

This specimen was lot 697 in Sincona Auction 103 (Zürich, May 2026), where it sold for 250 CHF (about US$381 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALIEN Venedig. Agostino Barbarigo, 1486-1501. Marcello o. J., Venezia. Vorzüglich. (Italy, republic of Venice, Agostino Barbarigo, 1486-1501, undated marcello, Venice mint. Extremely Fine.)"

A marcello was half a mocenigo or lira. Initials "IP" stand for mintmaster Jacopo Pizzamano, who served 1497-98. Agostino was preceded as doge by his brother Marco. A later Agostino Barbarigo was killed at the battle of Lepanto (1571).
