This specimen was lot 58016 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "VENEZUELA. 100 Bolivares, 1981. Werdohl (VDM Metals) Mint. NGC PROOF-65 Ultra Cameo." This coin, featuring the bicentennial of the birth of writer Andres Bello, is another in a series of NCLT's (non-circulating legal tender coins) that began appearing in the early seventies. It is fairly common in proof but very rare in uncirculated.

"Andrés de Jesús María y José Bello López (Spanish pronunciation: [anˈdɾes ˈβeʝo]; November 29, 1781 – October 15, 1865) was a Venezuelan humanist, diplomat, poet, legislator, philosopher, educator and philologist, whose political and literary works constitute an important part of Spanish American culture. Bello is featured on the old 2,000 Venezuelan bolívar and the 20,000 Chilean peso notes."

Recorded mintage: 200 "uncirculated" plus an unknown number of proofs.
