Sincona sale 64, lot 3671

This specimen was lot 3671 in Sincona sale 64 (Zürich, June 2020), where it sold for 400 CHF (about US$501 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SWITZERLAND | Waadt/Vaud | Kanton. Rappen 1804, Lausanne. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Vorzüglich-FDC. (canton of Vaud, rappen of 1804, Lausanne mint. Rare in this condition, Extremely fine-uncirculated.)"

Formerly a Bernese bailiwick, Vaud joined the Swiss Confederation as an independent canton in 1803, at which time it began to issue coins. This scarce type was struck 1804 only. It was accompanied by a batzen.

Recorded mintage: 211,000.
