This specimen was lot 74458 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Vatican City. 5 Lire, 1940-R Year II. Rome Mint. Pius XII. PCGS MS-66. Demonstrating concentric circles of rainbow toning that would impress even Noah after his time on the ark, this charming Vatican minor appeals with glossy charm and beautiful details." This type was issued 1939-41 for Pius XII, the second pope to rule over the newly independent Vatican City. It is common.
