This specimen was part of lot 3640 in Sincona sale 51 (Zürich, October 2018), which sold for 900 CHF (about US$1,086 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Kirchenstaat, Pius XII. 1939-1958. Lot 1946 ANNO VIII. 10 Lire, 5 Lire, 2 Lire, 1 Lira, 50 Centesimi, 20 Centesimi, 10 Centesimi, 5 Centesimi. 1947 ANNO IX. 10 Lire, 5 Lire, 2 Lire, 1 Lira. 1948 ANNO X. 10 Lire, 5 Lire, 2 Lire, 1 Lira. 1949 ANNO IV. 10 Lire, 5 Lire, 2 Lire, 1 Lira. 1950 IVB. 10 Lire, 5 Lire, 2 Lire, 1 Lira. 1946: Teilweise sehr selten. Vorzüglich-FDC. (Papal States, Pius XII, 1939-58, mixed lot, including a 1939 ten lire. Some very rare, Extremely fine-uncirculated.)"
This type was issued 1939-41 for Pius XII, the second pope to rule over the newly independent Vatican City. It is common.
