Künker sale 336, lot 6157

This specimen was lot 6157 in Künker sale 336 (Osnabruck, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €2,800 (about US$3,664 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"NIEDERLANDE, UTRECHT, Provinz. 2 Dukaten 1691. GOLD. Seltener Jahrgang. Leicht gewellt, kl. Bearbeitungsspuren, sehr schön. (Netherlands, province of Utrecht, double ducat of 1691, rare date, slightly bent, some smoothing, very fine.)"

This type was struck throughout the eighteenth century until 1794 but remains expensive. It was struck 1660, 1666-69, 1683-84, 1688-1794. The early type ducats, such as this one, were hammered; later issues of the eighteenth century were milled.
