Utrecht 1658 rijksdaalder Dav-4838
This specimen was lot 75481 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $384. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. Utrecht. Daalder, 1658. William III. PCGS Genuine--Planchet Flaw, AU Details. A curious Taler that would no doubt enliven a collection of Netherlands crowns. Quite a satisfying piece with a bold strike and excellent surface quality, but a chunk of the flan is missing due to a planchet flaw (as made). This is an extremely distinctive error and possibly the reason this example saw such limited circulation before being set aside." This type was struck 1650-61, 1668, 1683, 1687-88, 1693-95, 1700. It had a face value of 48 stuivers.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 29.03 g, 0.885 fine silver.
