This specimen was lot 30698 in Heritage sale 3040 (Chicago, April 2015), where it sold for $3,525. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic 20 Centesimos 1843/0 MS64 Brown PCGS, Montevideo mint. A most impressive example of this elusive two-year type, with moderate dark chocolate toning with hints of translucent reddish hues over outstanding quality surfaces. Among the finest seen by the cataloger of this issue, eminently desirable and conditionally very rare in this select preservation." This scarce issue, heavier than a silver eight reales, is normally found worn and with multiple rim bumps. This is among the first coins of Uruguay, which obtained its independence in 1830.
