The American Women quarters program continued in 2024 with new designs honoring Dr. Mary Edwards Walker, Zitkala-Ša, Rev. Dr. Pauli Murray, Patsy Takemoto Mink and Celia Cruz, shown here. The James Flanagan bust of Washington was dropped in favor of one done by Laura Gardin Fraser, whose design was originally selected in 1932 for the quarter but was rejected by the secretary of the Treasury. Wikipedia comments, "Celia Caridad Cruz Alfonso (1925-2003)...was a Cuban singer and one of the most popular Latin artists of the 20th century. Cruz rose to fame in Cuba during the 1950s as a singer of guarachas....In the following decades, she became known internationally as the "Queen of Salsa" due to her contributions to Latin music."

Recorded mintage: 156,200,000 from Denver (shown here) plus 149,600,000 from Philadelphia plus clad and silver proofs from San Francisco.

Specification: 5.67 g, copper-nickel clad copper, 24.26 mm diameter, reeded edge. Proofs are 6.34 g, 0.999 fine silver. The reverse was designed by Phebe Hemphill.
