The American Women quarters program commenced in 2022. The designs for 2023 honored Bessie Coleman, Edith Kanaka'ole, Jovita Idar, Maria Tallchief and Eleanor Roosevelt, shown here. The James Flanagan bust of Washington was dropped in favor of one done by Laura Gardin Fraser, whose design was originally selected in 1932 for the quarter but was rejected by the secretary of the Treasury. Eleanor Roosevelt (1884-1962) was FDR's wife and later the first ambassador to the United Nations.
Recorded mintage: 271,800,000 at Denver plus 284,000,000 at Philadelphia plus clad and silver proofs from San Francisco.
