This specimen was lot 7132 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it sold for $329. The catalog description[1] noted, "2008-W Bald Eagle Recovery and National Emblem Gold $5. Proof-70 Ultra Cameo (NGC)." This type was accompanied by a silver half dollar struck at San Francisco and a silver dollar struck at Philadelphia (KM 439). It is the only commemorative five dollars of 2008. Like many others of uninspired design, it sold poorly but others were worse.
Recorded mintage: 13,467 plus 59,269 proofs.
Specification: 8.36 g, 0.900 fine gold, .241 troy oz AGW, 21.6 mm diameter, reeded edge.
