The Walking Liberty half dollar was retired in 1948 in favor of Benjamin Franklin. While the obverse is inoffensive, the cluttered reverse has long been the object of derision. No date is rare, so collectors seek fully struck examples as well as various doubled die varieties (1948, 1951-S, 1957, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962) and some spectacular clashed dies.
Recorded Mintage: 21,192,093, a common date.
Specification: 12.5 g, 0.900 fine silver, .361 troy oz ASW, 30.6 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by John R Sinnock and engraved by Frank Gasparro.
