Traces of what some consider to be an earlier S, in the form of what may be the outer upper-left curve of the S protruding slightly from the upright D, can be seen under high magnification. Per the Wexler-Flynn text, verification was mainly by a photographic overlay. Otherwise, what seems to be the upper left of an S might be the heavy top-left serif of a D. Not especially collected until recent times, and then only by dedicated specialists. Not recognized by the Guide Book of United States Coins. Notwithstanding this, quite a few have been certified, including at the gem level. Common in all grades. Striking and Sharpness is usually very good.

Recorded Mintage: 625,355,000.

Specification: 3.11 g, brass, 19 mm diameter.

Catalog number: KM A132.
