This specimen was lot 204 in Schulman auction 385 (Amsterdam, July 2025), where it sold for €440 (about US$623 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "United States - 21/2 Dollars 1925 D, Gold Denver mint. Indian head. Rev. eagle with designs and legends incuse. Extremely fine." This type was struck in substantial numbers 1908-15 at Philadelphia and Denver before the mintage of gold was suspended during the First World War. This issue was the first to resume production of this design and continued until 1929. By this time, people preferred paper currency and there was little call for gold coin in everyday use. There were no issues from San Francisco.

Recorded mintage: 578,000.

Specification: 4.18 g, 0.900 fine gold, 18 mm diameter, designed by Bela Lyon Pratt, this specimen 4.17 g.

Catalog reference: Fr-121, KM 128.
