United States 1915 2-5 dollars rev DSLR.jpg

This issue is a late date of a type issued 1908-15 and 1925-29. It superseded the coronet head type of 1840-1907 as part of Theodore Roosevelt's freshening of coinage designs during his tenure as President. Despite the modest mintage, the coin is readily available as it circulated little, currency having superseded gold for large transactions. No branch mint issues exist between the 1879-S and the 1915-D. The San Francisco and New Orleans mints never issued this type, altho the San Francisco mint issued the Panama-Pacific 2½ dollars in 1915. This is a common date.

Specification: 4.18 g, 0.900 fine gold, 18 mm diameter, reeded edge.

Recorded mintage: 606,100.

Catalog reference: Fr-120, KM 128.
