Jean Elsen sale 155, lot 1877

This specimen was lot 1877 in Jean Elsen sale 155 (Brussels, June 2023), where it sold for €750 (about US$983 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ETATS-UNIS, AV 10 dollars, 1905. Très Beau. (United States, gold ten dollars of 1905. Very Fine.)"

This specimen is one of a type struck at the Philadelphia mint 1839-1907. Issues are also recorded from New Orleans (1841-60, 1879-1906), Carson City (1870-84, 1890-93), San Francisco (1854-89, 1892-1907) and Denver (1906-07). In 1866, the motto "In God We Trust" was added to the reverse. This date is common.
