United States 1903 10 dollars
This specimen was lot 1725 in Jean Elsen sale 154 (Brussels, March 2023), where it sold for €800 (about US$1,036 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ETATS-UNIS, AV 10 dollars, 1903. Petits coups. Superbe. (United States, gold ten dollars of 1903. Minor nicks, Extremely Fine.)"
This specimen is one of a type struck at the Philadelphia mint 1839-1907. Issues are also recorded from New Orleans (1841-60, 1879-1906), San Francisco (1854-89, 1892-1907), Carson City (1870-84, 1890-93) and Denver (1906-07). In 1866, the motto "In God We Trust" was added to the reverse. This date is common in all grades thru Uncirculated, altho gems are scarce.
