Sincona Auction 103, lot 1028

This specimen was lot 1028 in Sincona Auction 103 (Zürich, May 2026), where it sold for 6,000 CHF (about US$9,144 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"USA, 10 Dollars 1868, Philadelphia. Liberty head type. KM 102. Selten. Nur 10'630 Exemplare geprägt. (Rare. Only 10,630 specimens struck. NGC MS60.)"

This specimen is one of a type struck at the Philadelphia mint 1839-1907. Issues are also recorded from New Orleans (1841-60, 1879-1906), San Francisco (1854-89, 1892-1907), Carson City (1870-84, 1890-93) and Denver (1906-07). In 1866, the motto "In God We Trust" was added to the reverse. This date is scarce, as are most from the 1860's.

Recorded mintage: 10,630 plus 25 proofs.

Specification: 16.71 g, 0.900 fine gold, 27 mm diameter, reeded edge.
