This type, struck 1864-73 in large quantities, is available in all grades. The denomination was initially popular but as bronze cents became readily available and the nickel five cents was introduced in 1866, it became superfluous and mintages dwindled. The two cent piece was the first United States coin to bear the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST." This double die obverse receives a substantial premium.
Recorded mintage: 2,938,750.
Specification: 6.33 g, bronze, 23 mm diameter.
