This type, struck 1837-38 in reasonable quantities, is available in circulated condition. It was the first date of the Liberty Seated design. Stars were added to the obverse in 1838 and the obverse was modified again in 1840.

Recorded mintage: 1,042,000 (including the liberty cap type).

Specification: 2.67 g, 0.900 fine silver, .077 troy oz ASW, 17.9 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by William Kneass.
