This type was struck at the Philadelphia mint 1796 only. It is the first quarter issued by the United States Mint and the only one of its type. However, tho it is expensive, it is not rare; hundreds are known to exist. The next issue of draped bust quarters was in 1804 and used the large eagle reverse. The mint put little effort into striking quarters as Spanish American two reales were plentiful in the early United States.
