Sincona sale 38, lot 1526

This specimen was lot 1526 in Sincona sale 38 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 275 CHF (about US$330 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Leopoldo II. di Lorena, 1824-1859 Zecchino 1853. Sehr schön. Leicht gewellt. (grand duchy of Tuscany, Leopold II of Lorraine, 1824-59, zecchino of 1853. Very fine, Lightly wavy planchet.)"

This ducat or zecchino or fiorino is listed in the SCWC for 1824-32 and 1853. The reverse features John the Baptist. It is the last ducat struck in the duchy. In 1807, the grand duchy was annexed to France, to be returned to the Austrians in 1815.
