Tuscany 1848 fiorino

from the Stack's Bowers 2018 Collector's Choice sale, lot 71144

This specimen was lot 71144 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description^[1] noted, "ITALY. Tuscany. Fiorino, 1848. NGC MS-62. Sharply struck and brilliant with light attractive tone." This type is listed for 1843-48 and 1856-58. These obscure little Italian states coins don't catalog for much but are very difficult to find. The fiorino, originally a gold coin equal to a ducat, was in the nineteenth century one quarter of a francescone, the Tuscan equivalent of a piastra.
