Tuscany 1800 ruspone Fr-336
This specimen was lot 1650 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 1,400 CHF (about US$2,031 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ITALIEN Florenz, Ferdinando III. di Lorena (1. Periode), 1790-1801. Ruspone 1800, Firenze. Selten. Vorzüglich-FDC. Henkelspur. (Italy, grand duchy of Tuscany, Ferdinand III of Lorraine, first period, 1790-1801, ruspone of 1800, Florence mint. Rare, About Uncirculated, Mount mark.)"
Ferdinand III was the second son of Leopold of Austria and succeeded to the grand duchy when Leopold was elected Holy Roman Emperor in 1790. In 1801, Tuscany was occupied by the French and not returned to Hapsburg rule until 1814. This type was struck 1791-1801. This coin had a face value of three ducats.
