Tuscany 1784 francescone Dav-1516
This specimen was lot 25201 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $881.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Tuscany. Pietro Leopoldo 10 Paoli (Francescone) 1784, AU58 NGC, medium gray-gold patina, an attractive example with well-struck features on both sides." This type is listed for 1783-86 and is inexpensive for an Italian crown. Peter Leopold was the second son of Maria Theresia of Austria and emperor Joseph II's brother. He became emperor himself on the death of Joseph in 1790 but his reign lasted only until his death in 1792. In 1800, Tuscany was occupied by the French and not returned to Hapsburg rule until 1815.
