Stack's Bowers 2026 NYINC sale, lot 47901
SB126-47901r.jpg

This specimen was lot 47901 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $85. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Tuscany. 1/2 Francescone (5 Paoli), 1779. Florence Mint. Pietro Leopoldo. FINE." This scarce type was struck 1778-79 and 1787 and superseded KM C19, which showed the grand duke's hair tied in a queue. Confusingly, the SCWC shows a image of KM C19 for both types. Pietro Leopoldo was grand duke 1765-90 and Holy Roman Emperor 1790-92 before dying at the age of 44.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 13.75 g, 0.917 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-C19a.
