Tuscany 1747 francescone Dav-1505
This specimen was lot 3625 in Sincona sale 51 (Zürich, October 2018), where it sold for 250 CHF (about US$302 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Toscana, Francesco II. di Lorena, 1737-1765. 10 Paoli (Francescone) 1747, Firenze. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Hübsche Patina. (grand duchy of Tuscany, Francis II of Lorraine, 1737-65, francescone of 1747, Florence mint. Very fine-extremely fine, Attractive patina.)"
This type was accompanied by another francescone with a draped bust of the grand duke (Dav-1504). Francis was the husband of Maria Theresia of Austria and Holy Roman Emperor. He was originally duke of Lorraine but was evicted by the French and given Tuscany as compensation, the native Medici having gone extinct.
