Schulman 385-0196r.jpg

This specimen was lot 196 in Schulman auction 385 (Amsterdam, July 2025), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Turkey - 2 Kurush AH 1293//13 (1887 AD), Silver, ABDULHAMID II 1876-1909 Qustantiniyye mint. Tughra, 'el-Ghazi' to right, regnal year below. Rev. text, mint and date. Extremely fine +." As part of the Tanzimat reform of the 1840's, the coinage was modernized (milled instead of hammered) and the constant debasements ceased. This type, roughly equal to a dime, was struck in large numbers for years 8-34.

Recorded mintage: 30,000, a scarce date.

Specification: 2.40 g, 0.833 fine silver, this specimen 2.37 g.

Catalog reference: KM 736.
