Schulman 385-0197r.jpg

This specimen was lot 197 in Schulman auction 385 (Amsterdam, July 2025), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Turkey - Kurush AH 1293//13 (1887 AD), Silver, ABDULHAMID II 1876-1909 Qustantiniyye mint. Tughra, 'el-Ghazi' to right, regnal year below. Rev. text, mint and date. Almost very fine." As part of the Tanzimat reform of the 1840's, the coinage was modernized (milled instead of hammered) and the constant debasements ceased. This type, roughly equal to a half dime, was struck in large numbers for years 8-34.

Recorded mintage: 130,000, a better date.

Specification: 1.20 g, 0.833 fine silver, this specimen 1.16 g.

Catalog reference: KM 735.
