This specimen was lot 2070 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $60. The catalog description[1] noted, "TURKEY: Abdul Mejid, 1839-1861, AE 40 para, AH1255 year 19, countermarked KΘOB on reverse, for the church of Vurgano, Rahoni, Thasos, some weakness in the countermark, VF on F-VF host." This type was struck years 17 thru 23 and has a low catalog value except for the rare year 23. The copper forty para (= one kurush) was abandoned after this issue. When the forty para was revived in 1910, it was a nickel coin.
